Meet the two new breeds coming to the Westminster Dog Show
Tickets for the annual Westminster Dog Show, held in February 2015, don’t go on sale until next month. But it’s being announced this week that the show will include two new breeds. Meet them:
Coton de Tulear
- The fluffy, white breed dates back to 15th-century Madagascar.
- Stands just 9 to 11 inches tall at the shoulder. “It’s a nice size dog for a city dog,” enthuses American Kennel Club Vice President Gina DiNardo.
- Celeb fans: Catherine ZetaJones, Barbra Streisand
WIREHAIRED VIZSLA
- Dates backs to 1930s Hungary.
- Characterized as athletic and hearty. “People in Hungary wanted a dog with a heavier coat for the winter,” explains DiNardo of the breeding.
- Less than 400 registered in the U.S.
- Their coats can be any of seven official colors, ranging from rust to red to sandy yellow.
