This Memorial Day, meet 4 furry soldiers whose heroics have earned them their place in US history.
Sgt. Stubby
The New Haven, Conn.-born Boston terrier was smuggled aboard a Paris-bound ship by Cpl. Robert Conroy in 1917, and became the mascot of the 102nd Infantry.
For the next 18 months, Stubby located wounded soldiers in the field and warned his men to incoming artillery shells, which he could hear before they did.
He was even fitted with a custom-designed gas mask.
