Quasimodo doesn’t look like your typical dog — because he’s anything but average.
The 3-year-old German Shepherd, who goes by Quasi for short, is one of only 13 known dogs in the world that suffers from short spine syndrome — a condition that gives him, quite literally, a shortened spine and a hunched back. His head and legs are average-sized.
The former stray was found wandering on his own in Kentucky before being taken in by rescue organization Secondhand Hounds in Eden Prairie, Minn., this past Thursday. Rescues workers there named him Quasimodo after the protagonist of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
